about

“Griot del Rio” is a new genre of music, BombaPop, which fuses traditional Afro Boricua rhythm, Sica, with pop, funk, and R&B instrumentation that was made to move and heal you. I hope all who encounter my music grow from the lyrics and sounds, as I offer a new adaptation born from my ancestors’ transformative music, Bomba, which was created on the sugar cane plantations of Boriquen. My ancestors persevered through so much, and I know we can continue to metabolize our hardships to do our best to change the world and experience beautiful lives.

lyrics

Soy de una ciudad (I'm from a city)
Al lado un gran rio (Next to a big river)
Le digo mis palabras (I tell it my words)
Y se pone frío (And it turns cold)
Le cuento mi cuento (I tell it my story)
Y me escucha (And it listens to me)
Tenemos conversaciones (We have conversations)
Como en las películas (Like in the movies)
When the world seems
Dark and heavy
Sometimes I ride it out
When my heart can't
Take no more
That's when I play it out
When the world seems
Dark and heavy
Sometimes I ride it out
When my heart can't
Take no more
That's when I play it out
I might pick up a pen
I might pick up a drum
I might shed a tear
I might mix some piña and rum
I know I can't hold the weight
Of the world in my body
So I move and
Shake and scream
Anything to get it out of me
I could tell you from experience
Nothin' is forever
Uhh uhh
Things can get better
I could tell you from experience
Nothin' is forever
Uhh uhh
Things will get better
Soy de una ciudad (I'm from a city)
Al lado un gran rio (Next to a big river)
Le digo mis palabras (I tell it my words)
Y se pone frío (And it turns cold)
Le cuento mi cuento (I tell it my story)
Y me escucha (And it listens to me)
Tenemos conversaciones (We have conversations)
Como en las películas (Like in the movies)
I could tell you from experience
Nothin' is forever
Uhh uhh
Things can get better
(I can tell) I can tell you from experience
(You oooh yea) Nothin' is forever
Uhh uhh
(I know things) Things will get better
Can get better
I know, I know
(I know, I know) Things will get better
Let me tell you, yea
Things will get better
2, 3, 4
Whoo

Things will get better
